"The world stands on three things: Torah (Jewish learning), Avodah (service of God) and acts of Chesed (loving-kindness)"

Ethics of the Fathers 1:2

At Muswell Hill Synagogue we believe that we should give up some of our time to help others.

We do this in various ways

GIVE CLOTHES OR YOUR TIME TO WORLD JEWISH RELIEF

Get involved in mitzvah day:

Help our local soup kitchen

Visit someone in need

Donate warm clothes and toiletries to World Jewish Relief:

Please also donate to Muswell Hill's Big Bagel fund here to help Jewish Communities in need

On May 14th Come and join us for the Big Bagel Kiddush. Hear Georgia Clarke talk about her trip to the Ukraine with WJR and join us after the service for Bagels and more.

Find out more about World Jewish Relief here

You can bring bags for World Jewish Relief any weekday or Sunday morning to the shul.

WHERE SHALL I LEAVE THEM?

Leave them in the Sukkah area of the shul and they will be taken to WJR.

WHAT DO THEY NEED?

good quality clothes, blankets, warm items, children's clothes, toiletries, nappies

For the last three years members of Muswell Hill shul have given up their time for one day in November to help others. We have collected food outside Sainsburys to give to charity, planted bulbs in the park, made a tea party for senior citizens and wrapped presents for children at Barnados.

THIS YEAR ON THE 21ST NOVEMBER we had an amazing mitzvah day

We hosted an inspiring and exciting interfaith tea for our own older members and members from local churches.

We wrapped over 110 boxes of toys for children at Barnados.

We collected over 50 boxes of food at Sainsburys to donate to local charities.

We baked cakes with the residents at Rosetrees Care home

Our teenagers helped restore Coldfall Woods

We donated over 30 bags of  scarves, winter hats and gloves to World Jewish Relief's Winter Campaign to help families living in poverty in the former Soviet Union

Help at a local soup kitchen

There is a soup kitchen at the Baptist Church in Dukes Avenue Muswell Hill.

How Can i help?

They need volunteers to help them at Christmas and Easter and occasionally at other times. Let the shul office know if you would like to help.

They also need people with skills such as nurses, chiropodists, hairdressers to occasionally offer their help. Let Sara Leviten know if you have a skill you could offer.

Do they also need food?

Please also donate to our collection of tins for the soup kitchen. collection boxes can be found in the shul foyer.

Jewish Care would love to hear from anyone who would like to offer their time to visit someone in need.

For example, you could visit a care home resident for just 3o minutes and play the Wii,  teach them how to access emails or Skype family abroad, on an occasional weekend or evening

If you are a good amateur photographers for occasional events photography, a musicians, artists or just someone who can help serve coffee, they would love to hear from you .

Project Chesed

We also have various collections throughout the year for the United Synagogues Project Chesed. We have collected glasses for developing countries and mobile phones to recycle to raise money for Pesach food for those in need. Watch out for details of the latest collection.
