Thanks to all the Mitzvah Day volunteers

Thanks to all who helped with Mitzvah Day this year.

Victoria Mattison wrote this update about the cheder visit to Springcroft.

We were thrilled to be have been welcomed back to Springcroft this year as part of Mitvah day with Muswell Hill Cheder this year. There were 18 children, 8 parents and the bar/bat mitzvah teacher in our group, and we had a great time. The children began by introducing themselves to the residents as a group. Sam then played some beautiful tunes on his trumpet, and Daniel performed a great selection of magic tricks. We chatted for a while in different groups with the residents and then shared some fruit and snacks together. We met some wonderful people today, with so may stories to tell.

We ended the morning with a shared exercise class led by Jess – with the residents, parents and children together all moving to music. One of the parents (Louise) has kindly agreed to facilitate a continued link between the home and our community. We look forward to returning to springcroft soon!

We also returned to Sainsburys for the 7th year running to collect food for 3 local charities, Caris, who support homeless families in Tottenham, Ajex, who run sheltered accommodation for Jewish ex servicemen and the soup kitchen in Dukes Avenue Baptist Church, Muswell Hill. We are always surprised at the generosity of shoppers and collected over 40 boxes of food and toiletries for the charities.

Thanks as ever to those who baked challot, visited older people, collected outside Sainsburys, drove food to the charities. If you still want to be involved we have food that needs delivering this week, and if you’d like to help plan next years Mitzvah Day or have other ideas of how we could help the wider community on an ongoing basis, please contact Karen Ackerman or Ilana Swimer.
