Top of the Hill – 22 March 2023

Top of the Hill!

Wednesday 22nd March at 2.30pm at Shul

Dear Tothites,

This is a reminder of  our final meeting before Pesach, this Wednesday, 22nd March, at 2.30pm at Shul.

Our speaker is:

Janet Owen, from the Hornsey Historical Society:

“Beating the Bounds of Hornsey”.

Muswell Hill’s place in the jigsaw of our past.

Janet Owen has lived in the borough for over 50 years, spending her working life in London schools as a teacher and inspector. She joined Hornsey Historical Society (HHS) in 1981 and currently serves as Chair of its Publications Committee. She has written several local history books and articles for HHS, most recently writing stories for, and editing, its latest book, 100 Stories From The Archive, which is receiving wide acclaim.

The Hornsey Historical Society was founded in 1971, moving into the Old Schoolhouse on the corner of Rokesly Avenue and Tottenham Lane, N8, in 1981. Here a large variety of HHS postcards, books, maps and journals are sold is the shop (open on Thursdays, Fridays & the first and third Saturday of the month) and on Fridays personal researchers can book to use the Archive of over 28,000 items. Since the Covid pandemic activities have been restricted to monthly lectures on Zoom. Currently, providing more activities is restricted by the lack of volunteers.

Please let Janet know if you are able to come, at , as this is essential for security reasons. Our security staff need to be able to identify you at the door.

[Please note a charge of £5 per person to cover refreshments]

We look forward to seeing many of you at this meeting.

We will then be having a break until 26th April.

Best wishes, Janet and Keith
