PRE-ROSH HASHANAH INFORMATION

SEAT CARDS/SERVICE TIMESAs Rosh Hashanah fast approaches, and you have not yet received your Seat Card/Service Times listing, please DON’T PANIC!!  We will be sending out this year’s Rosh Hashanah edition of the Shalom! Magazine next Monday and all information for Rosh Hashanah services, etc will be included with it (you will appreciate our desire to save on postage!).

LEARNING WITH MAUREEN KENDLER

We have developed a mental health programme featuring a range of talks and activities – details to follow. Maureen Kendler will be leading two learning sessions as part of this programme as follows:
1st Day Rosh Hashanah at 11.00am – “How we carry our past with us: a new way of reading the Sacrifice of Isaac”
Yom Kippur at 1.00pm – “I loved Yom Kippur because it was like me: The strange joy of atonement”
Both sessions will take place in the Rose and Harry Epstein Hall.

COMMUNAL TASHLICH

In the Middle Ages a custom began based on Biblical verses that referred to throwing off our sins into the depths of the seas.  We don’t quite have those depths here in Muswell Hill and so annually we go to Coldfall Wood and throw all our sins into the tiny stream that runs through it!  The custom is to do Tashlich (the word means “throw off”) on the first day of Rosh Hashanah before the Afternoon service.  So everyone is invited to our communal Tashlich in Coldfall Wood with honey cake and drinks at 5.00pm on Thursday, 21 September.

LULAV AND ETROG SETS

Lulav and etrog sets (arba’ah minim) for use on Succot can be ordered from Andrew Margolis (07747  065749; email: ) after Rosh Hashanah but please ensure that orders are placed before Yom Kippur.

MOBILE PHONES AND CAMERAS

Please remember that you are coming to the synagogue of an orthodox community and it is inappropriate to bring mobile phones, cameras and other such electronic items with you.  They are not allowed into the building on Shabbat or festivals. Hearing aids are permitted.
