Wednesday 31st January, 2.15 pm at Shul Simon Smith: “The story of an English almshouse” Simon will recount over 1,000 years of almshouse history, up to the present day. He will showcase many in the local area, plus the best examples in the UK and abroad. Simon managed an historic alms house charity in Barnet for 15 years and now works part time for The Finchley Charities. He has been made an ambassador for the whole almshouses movement, travelling around the country visiting these iconic institutions with their marvellous architecture and fascinating history.
